The OAE Council has drafted a competency framework and will be seeking stakeholders' input to refine this framework, ensuring it meets the needs of our OAE community.

Skills Framework - Outdoor Leadership

The Outdoor Leadership Wall, developed by Dr. Simon Priest, originated from his 1983 master's thesis on outdoor leadership. It has since become a commonly adopted skills framework for Outdoor Leaders.
Formal Education
These local courses, which are non-exhaustive, range from 1 year to 4 years. They provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to prepare learners for a role in outdoor, environmental and sustainable industry.

Hard Skills (Technical)
The administration of outdoor technical skills such as climbing, kayaking, and dragonboating is overseen by our National Sports Associations (NSAs). These NSAs are responsible for ensuring the development and promotion of these activities in a safe and inclusive manner. If you are interested in acquiring or improving your skills in any of these areas, we encourage you to reach out to the relevant NSAs who can provide you with the necessary guidance and resources.
